This medicine is used to treat broad spectrum bacterial, protozoal, parasitic infections in various parts of the body caused by certain bacteria (such as Chlamydia trachomatis, Chlamydophila pneumoniae, Clostridium difficile, Haemophilus ducreyi, Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus agalactiae, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes). This includes pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), bronchitis, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, bacterial sinusitis, upper and lower respiratory tract infections, eye infections, bacterial conjunctivitis, conjunctivitis, middle ear infections, acute otitis media, tonsillitis, pertussis, pharyngitis (strep throat), cystic fibrosis, traveler's diarrhea, intestinal infections, typhoid fever, toxoplasmosis, malaria, babesiosis, bartonellosis, trachoma, urethritis, cervicitis, genital ulcer disease (chancroid) in men, sexually transmitted infections, gonorrhea and chlamydia infections, pelvic inflammatory disease, granuloma inguinale, borrelial infections, Lyme disease, acne vulgaris, skin and skin structure infections, soft tissue infections; to prevent bacterial endocarditis; in veterinary medicine.
