  • Lamivudine (trade names include Epivir, Epivir-HBV, 3TC, Heptavir, Heptovir, Lamivir, Lamivir HBV, Zeffix) is an antiviral medication for systemic use from nucleoside and nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitors pharmacological group. This medicine is indicated for the treatment and prevention of HIV/AIDS, to treat chronic hepatitis B. It is effective against both HIV-1 and HIV-2. Lamivudine is often used in combination with other antiretroviral drugs to treat HIV infection. It works by inhibiting both types (1 and 2) of HIV reverse transcriptase and also the reverse transcriptase of hepatitis B virus.
