  • Hydroxychloroquine (trade names include Plaquenil, Apo-Hydroxyquine, Axemal, Dolquine, Evoquin, HCQ, HCQS, Hydroquin, Plaquinol, Polirreumin, Quensyl, Quinoric, Reuquinol, Zy-Q) is an antimalarial medication from aminoquinolines pharmacological group. This medicine is used to treat or prevent malaria (especially chloroquine-sensitive malaria), a disease caused by parasites that enter the body through the bite of a mosquito. Malaria is common in areas such as Southern Asia, Africa, South America. Hydroxychloroquine is also indicated for the treatment of discoid or systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjogren syndrome (Sicca syndrome), porphyria cutanea tarda, dermatomyositis, Q fever, undifferentiated connective tissue disease, antiphospholipid syndrome, LIPIN1 disease, symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, Lyme disease arthritis, post-Lyme arthritis, other rheumatic disorders; for experimental treatment of coronavirus disease (COVID-19). It works as antimalarial, anti-spirochaete, anti-inflammatory medication.
