Acarbose (trade names include Precose, Glucobay, Adeksa, Diabose, Glucar, Glucor, Prandase) is an oral anti-diabetic medication from alpha-glucosidase inhibitors pharmacological group. This medicine is used for treating type 2 diabetes (non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus) and prediabetes in patients who cannot control blood sugar levels only by diet and exercises. It works by slowing the digestion of carbohydrates in the body, which helps control blood sugar levels.
