Benzoyl Peroxide (trade names include Benzac, Benzac AC, Akneroxid, Basiron, Benzagel, Brevoxyl, Clean and Clear, Oxy, Clearasil, PanOxyl) is an anti acne preparation for topical use from peroxides pharmacological group. It is indicated in topical pharmaceutical forms such as gel, cream, liquid for the treatment of acne, blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, pustules. This product has an antibacterial effect and a mild drying effect, which allows excess oils and dirt to be easily washed away from the skin.
It is also used in dentistry as a tooth whitening medication.
Benzoyl Peroxide is proven to reduce bacteria by 94% and is included in the World Health Organization Model List of Essential Medicines.
