This medicine is used for the treatment of nausea and vomiting (including associated with acute migraine), discomfort caused by a slow moving stomach known as gastroparesis by increasing movements or contractions of the stomach and bowel, fullness or bloating and regurgitation of stomach contents (reflux or heartburn), delayed gastric emptying of functional origin with gastro-oesophageal reflux and/or dyspepsia, pediatric reflux, as an anti-emetic in patients receiving cytostatic and radiation therapy, to relieve gastrointestinal symptoms in Parkinson's disease, to promote lactation (breast milk production) by release of prolactin; in veterinary medicine. Domperidone also facilitates radiological examination of the upper gastrointestinal tract. It works by blocking the action of a chemical messenger in the brain which causes the feeling of nausea and vomiting, as well as increasing the movement or contractions of the stomach and intestines, allowing food to move more easily through the stomach.
