  • Metoclopramide (trade names include Maxolon, Reglan, Afipran, Anausin, Cerucal, Clopamon, Contromet, Emenorm, Gastroflux, Gastronerton, Gastrosil, Maxeran, Metozolv, Motilon, Paspertin, Perinorm, Plasil, Pramin, Premosan, Primperan, Vomend, Vominorm) is a medication for gastrointestinal tract from propulsives pharmacological group. This medicine is used to treat people with slow emptying of the stomach and intestinal tract, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), general and diabetic gastroparesis, heartburn, stomach pain, stomach bloating; with radiotherapy to diagnose problems of the stomach and intestines; to help with passing medical tubes into the stomach or intestines; other stomach and esophageal problems, diseases and symptoms. It is also indicated for the treatment of nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy, radiation sickness, radiographic exam, cancer, emetogenic drugs, uremia, infection, congestive heart failure, labor, transporting people, hyperemesis gravidarum (severe nausea and vomiting in pregnancy), due to other conditions and medical procedures. Metoclopramide may be prescribed for the therapy of migraine headaches in combination with paracetamol (acetaminophen) or aspirin; for lactation to increase breast milk production; in veterinary medicine for cats, dogs, rabbits. This medication works by blocking the action of some chemicals in the brain which causes vomiting and nausea. It also acts in the stomach and upper intestine to increase muscle contractions.
