This medication is used for the therapy of many kinds of mild to moderate infections caused by certain bacteria, such as respiratory tract, ear, skin, soft tissues, throat, urinary tract infections, gonorrhea, pneumonia, bronchitis, otitis media, sinusitis, tonsillitis, pharyngitis, bladder infections, kidney infections, for oral continuation treatment when intravenous cephalosporins are no longer necessary for continued therapy; in veterinary medicine. Vantin is effective against most Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms, including Bacteroides fragilis, Enterococcus, Haemophilus influenzae, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Streptococcus pyogenes. Cefpodoxime Proxetil is a prodrug which is metabolized to cefpodoxime by the liver. It works by destroying bacteria's cell membrane and killing sensitive bacteria.
