This medicine is used to treat bacterial infections of skin, soft tissue, bone, joint, respiratory tract, throat, sinuses, eyes, ear, urinary tract, kidney, bladder infections, Lyme disease, meningitis, otitis media, sinusitis, strep throat, tonsillitis, pharyngitis, peritonitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, epiglottitis, impetigo, uncomplicated gonorrhea, uncomplicated or disseminated gonococcal infection, sepsis, wound infections, for surgical prophylaxis, to lower the chance of developing endophthalmitis after cataract surgery, in veterinary medicine. It has also high activity against susceptible strains of Staphylococci and Streptococci, Haemophilus influenzae and Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Cefuroxime Axetil is an acetoxyethyl ester prodrug of Cefuroxime Base for systemic use by oral administration.
