This medicine is used for the treatment and prophylaxis of many types of bacterial infections such as gastrointestinal, intra-abdominal, urinary tract, respiratory tract, bone, joint, skin, soft tissue infections: bacteremia, common cold, pneumonia, bronchitis, bronchiectasis, active tuberculosis, cystic fibrosis, mycobacterium avium intracellulare infection, infectious diarrhea, traveler's diarrhea, gastroenteritis, gastrointestinal perforation, cholera, Crohn's disease, pouchitis, diverticulitis, uncomplicated cystitis, typhoid fever, salmonella enteric fever, rabbit fever, febrile neutropenia, endocarditis, shigellosis, peritonitis, plague, bubonic plague, anthrax, cutaneous bacillus anthracis, pyelonephritis, gonorrhea, gonococcal infection, sexually transmitted epididymitis, granuloma inguinale, chancroid, chronic bacterial prostatitis, cellulitis, malignant otitis externa, meningococcal meningitis, sinusitis, for surgical prophylaxis, in veterinary medicine.
    Ciprofloxacin ophthalmic and/or otic solution (eye/ear drops) is prescribed to treat bacterial eye and ear infections.
    The spectrum of activity includes Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria such as Enterococcus faecalis, Escherichia coli, Haemophilus influenzae, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Legionella pneumophila, Moraxella catarrhalis, Proteus mirabilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae. It works by stopping the production of essential proteins needed by the bacteria to survive.
