This medication is indicated to treat and prevent many kinds of bacterial infections, like ear, upper and lower respiratory tract, skin, soft tissue infections: acne vulgaris, strep throat, pharyngitis, sinusitis, pneumonia, legionella pneumonia, mycoplasma pneumonia, tonsillitis, acute and chronic bronchitis, otitis media, acute middle ear infections, disseminated Mycobacterium avium complex infection, Lyme disease, toxoplasmosis, cat scratch disease, pertussis, cryptosporidiosis, Legionnaires' disease, nongonococcal urethritis, dental abscess, bacterial endocarditis, follicular lymphoma.
    Spectrum of bacterial susceptibility of this antibiotic includes aerobic gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes, Haemophilus parainfluenzae, Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis, Helicobacter pylori, Mycobacterium avium avium, Mycobacterium intracellulare, Chlamydia pneumoniae, Mycoplasma pneumoniae.
    It is in research studies for the treatment of idiopathic hypersomnia and central hypersomnolence.
    Clarithromycin works by stopping the growth or killing sensitive bacteria by interfering with their protein synthesis.
