Dapagliflozin (trade names include Forxiga, Farxiga, Forziga, Edistride, Oxra) is an antidiabetic medication from sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors pharmacological groups. This medicine is used for the treatment of diabetes type 2 or noninsulin-dependent diabetes as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control, to reduce the risk of hospitalization for heart failure in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus and established cardiovascular disease or multiple cardiovascular risk factors, to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death and hospitalization for heart failure in adults with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (NYHA class II-IV). It works by lowering the level of the blood sugar by removing the excess sugar from the body through the urine. Forxiga and Farxiga can be used alone or in combination with other anti-diabetic medicines such as metformin or saxagliptin.
