This medicine is indicated for hormone replacement therapy (HRT, menopausal hormone therapy, postmenopausal hormone therapy) during menopause to treat and prevent moderate to severe menopausal and postmenopausal symptoms such as hot flashes, vaginal dryness and atrophy, atrophic urethritis, atrophic vaginitis, osteoporosis. It is also indicated for hormonal contraception, lactation suppression, breast enhancement, oophorectomy, in feminizing hormone therapy for transgender women (gender affirming hormone therapy), for the treatment of infertility, hypogonadism, hypoestrogenism (low sex hormone levels in women), tall stature, schizophrenia, sexual deviance, overactive bladder, gender dysphoria, primary ovarian failure, hormone-sensitive cancers (prostate cancer, breast cancer), and for other medical purposes. Medical estradiol works as a naturally occurring steroid hormone.
