Ethambutol (trade names include Myambutol, Combutol, Ecox, EMB Fatol, Etapiam, Etibi, Mycobutol, Santibi) is an anti tuberculosis drug. This medicines is used for the treatment of tuberculosis in patients with Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection along with other tuberculosis medications. It is also indicated for the therapy of infections caused by Mycobacterium avium complex and Mycobacterium kansasii. Ethambutol works as a bacteriostatic by obstructing the formation of mycobacterium cell wall.
