It is indicated for the treatment of various dermatologic conditions such as skin infections, warts, aphthous ulcers, leprosy, lichen planus; as a stimulator of the immune system and adjuvant in colorectal and certain other types of cancer; for the management of nephrotic syndrome. Levamisole is also used in veterinary medicine as a dewormer for livestock, pets, aquarium fish. As an anthelmintic agent it works as a nicotinic acetylcholine receptor agonist that causes continued stimulation of the parasitic worm muscles, leading to paralysis.
