This medicine is used for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH (enlarged prostate). Tamsulosin often improves male urinary symptoms due to BPH in as little as one week. It has been shown to maintain long-term symptom relief. Flomax is also indicated to treat urinary tract and kidney stones (to help with the passage of kidney stones), chronic prostatitis, for urinary retention and overactive bladder. It works by relaxing muscles in the prostate and bladder neck. This improves urine flow and reduces BPH symptoms. Tamsulosin HCl may be used alone or in combinations with other urological drugs, such as finasteride, dutasteride, tolterodine or solifenacin.
