  • Albendazole (trade names include Albenza, Zentel, Adazol, Albenda, Albendrox, Aldamin, Antiworm, Bendex, Eskazole, Noworm, Parasin, Valbazen, Vermisen, X-Worm) is an orally administered broad-spectrum medication known as antiparasitic, anti-helminthic and anti-worm drug from benzimidazole derivatives pharmacological group. This medicine is used to treat infections of arthropods, flatworms, nematodes, roundworms, pinworms, hookworms, whipworms, tapeworms, pork tapeworms, dog tapeworms, crassiceps tapeworms, and other parasites. It is indicated for the treatment of cestodes, fasciolosis, filariasis, lymphatic filariasis (elephantiasis), loa loa filariasis (loiasis), giardiasis, trichuriasis, cysticercosis, neurocysticercosis, parenchymal neurocysticercosis, ascariasis, baylisascariasis, enterobiasis, gnathostomiasis, gongylonemiasis, cutaneous larva migrans, toxocariasis (visceral larva migrans), intestinal capillariasis, mansonelliasis, oesophagostomumiasis (oesophagostomiasis), strongyloidiasis, trichinosis, trichostrongyliasis, microsporidiosis, granulomatous amoebic encephalitis, crusted scabies, head lice, intestinal myiasis, hydatid disease (echinococcosis), cystic hydatid disease of the liver, lung, peritoneum, and other diseases. Albendazole is also widely used in veterinary medicine for cattle, sheeps, cats, dogs, birds, goats, pigs. This medication works by keeping the worm from absorbing sugar (glucose), so that parasites lose energy and die.
