Carbidopa with Levodopa (trade names include Sinemet, Apo-Levocarb, Co-Careldopa, Sinemet CR, Dopadura C, Dopicar, Sinemet LP, Duodopa, Duopa, Half Sinemet, Kardopal, Levocarb, Sinemet Plus, Levodopa Comp., Syndopa, Levomed, Nacom, Nakom, Rytary, Sinemet Retard, Syndopa CR, Tidomet) is a combined antiparkinson drug from dopa derivatives and decarboxylase inhibitors pharmacological groups. This medication is used for the treatment of Parkinson's disease, its symptoms and conditions, including postencephalitic parkinsonism, idiopathic Parkinson's disease, symptomatic parkinsonism, muscle stiffness, tremors, spasms, poor muscle control; to treat Parkinson symptoms caused by carbon monoxide poisoning or manganese intoxication. It is also indicated for the therapy of dopamine-responsive dystonia (DRD), periodic limb movement disorder, restless legs syndrome (RLS), amblyopia.
Symptoms of Parkinson's disease may be caused by low levels of chemical called dopamine in the brain. Levodopa works by converting to dopamine in the brain. Carbidopa helps prevent the breakdown of levodopa before it can reach the brain and take effect.
