Trihexyphenidyl (trade names include Artane, Arkine, Benzhexol, Bexol, Cyclodol, Hexylent, Hipokinon, Pacitane, Pargitan, Parkinane LP, Parkopan, Parnil, Tonaril, Triphen, Tryhp) is an antiparkinson drug from tertiary amines pharmacological group. This medicine is used for the therapy of stiffness, tremors, spasms, and poor muscle control of Parkinson's disease. It is prescribed to treat and prevent the same muscular conditions when they are caused by pharmaceutical drugs such as fluphenazine, chlorpromazine, haloperidol, perphenazine, thiothixene, and others. Trihexyphenidyl HCl is also indicated for the treatment of akathisia, essential tremor, for children with dystonia due to cerebral palsy, to control drooling; as an antidote in organophosphate poisoning to counteract seizures, cholinergic crisis, neuropathology. It works as an anticholinergic medication.
