Rizatriptan (trade names include Maxalt, Rizact, Maxalt Lingua, Maxalt Melt, Rizatriptan Mylan, Maxalt Rapitab, Maxalt RPD, Maxalt-MLT) is an antimigraine drug from selective serotonin (5HT1) receptor agonists pharmacological group. This medication is used to treat migraine headache with or without aura (an aura is a strange feeling or visual disturbance: flashing lights, wavy lines, dark spots, that warns you of an attack). Rizatriptan works by narrowing dilated blood vessels in the brain, relieving migraine headaches. Maxalt also helps to relieve migraine-associated symptoms of nausea and sensitivity to light and sound.
