  • Topiramate (trade names include Topamax, Epimate, Epitomax, Eprontia, Qudexy XR, Teva-Topiramate, Topamac, Topamax Sprinkle, Topiramato Cinfa, Topiramate Sandoz, Trokendi XR) is an anticonvulsant medication, a neuronal stabilizing agent from antiepileptics pharmacological group. This medicine is used to control seizures (convulsions) in adults or children with various forms of epilepsy, for the therapy of essential tremor, Lennox-Gastaut syndrome in children, to prevent migraine, to treat medication overuse headache, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, alcoholism, alcohol dependence, cocaine cravings and use, obesity, overweight, binge eating disorder, bulimia, fibromyalgia, trigeminal neuralgia, vulvodynia, chronic pain, diabetic peripheral neuropathy, Tourette's syndrome, for smoking cessation, and for other medical conditions and diseases of nervous system. It is also in research studies for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
