This medication is used to control seizures in adults and children with epilepsy, including absence seizure, focal seizures, tonic-clonic seizures, myoclonic seizures, atonic seizures, and a serious form of epilepsy known as Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. Lamotrigine is also indicated for the treatment of bipolar disorder, trigeminal neuralgia, peripheral neuropathy, reducing neuropathic pain, cluster headaches, migraines, visual snow, depersonalization disorder, hallucinogen persisting perception disorder, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, anxiety, depression, borderline personality disorder, cyclothymic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, restless legs syndrome, post-traumatic stress disorder, and for other medical purposes. It works mainly as a member of the sodium channel blocking class of antiepileptic drugs.
