Oxcarbazepine (trade names include Trileptal, Apydan, Deprectal, Oleptal OD, Oxicodal, Oleptal DT, Oxcarb, Oxetol, Tolep, Trioptal, Zenoxa) is an antiepileptic/anticonvulsant drug from carboxamide derivatives pharmacological group. This medication is used to treat people with epilepsy. It helps prevent partial (focal) seizures and generalised tonic-clonic seizures, in adults and in children aged 1 month and above. Trileptal is also effective in approximately half of patients with bipolar disorder and is well tolerated. Oxcarbazepine works by slowing abnormal nerve impulses in the brain.
