This medicine is indicated for the treatment of various cognitive disorders, including post-stroke aphasia, cognitive decline following heart and brain surgery, dementia, Alzheimer's disease, myoclonus, epilepsy, depression, anxiety, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), mood changes, behavioral disorders, brain injury, vertigo, tardive dyskinesia, dyslexia, sickle cell anemia, vasospasm, deformability of erythrocytes, Raynaud's phenomenon, mental retardation in children; to reduce the duration of vestibular nystagmus; to control twitching and jerking of the muscles; for combined therapy in patients with poor tolerance to antipsychotics. Piracetam is also widely used off-label as memory enhancer, cognitive enhancer (cognitive booster) to improve cognition and concentration, as an athletic performance. It has a positive effect on metabolism and blood circulation of the brain. Nootropil increases glucose utilization, improves the course of metabolic processes, improves microcirculation in the ischemic areas, and inhibits the aggregation of activated platelets.
