Ribavirin (trade names include Copegus, Rebetol, Ribasure, Ribahep, Moderiba, Ribasphere, Ribavin, Ribavirin Teva, Ribazole, Vilona, Viramid, Virazide, Virazole) is an antiviral medication from nucleosides and nucleotides pharmacological group. This medicine is used for the treatment of viral infections, such as chronic hepatitis C, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), viral hemorrhagic fever infections (Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever, Lassa fever, Venezuelan hemorrhagic fever, Hantavirus infection), herpes simplex virus, rabies, canine distemper, cancers, acute myeloid leukemia, and related diseases. It works as guanosine (ribonucleic) analog and nucleoside inhibitor. Rebetol and Copegus stop viral RNA synthesis and viral replication. Ribavirin can be used alone or in combinations with interferon, peginterferon, and other antiviral drugs.
