This medication is indicated for the treatment of high blood pressure (HBP, hypertension), edema, oedema, pulmonary edema, swelling, cerebral edema (swelling of the brain), ascites, fluid build-up from heart failure, congestive heart failure, liver cirrhosis (liver scarring), renal disease, kidney diseases including the nephrotic syndrome, kidney impairment, renal failure, chronic kidney diseases with hypoalbuminemia, renal transplant; for the management of severe hypercalcemia, oliguria, nonobstructive oliguria; for weight loss; in veterinary medicine for horses, cats, dogs, other pets and animals. Furosemide is also used by athletes in sports to withdraw some substances from the body and to loose weight. This medicine works by preventing the organism from absorbing too much salt, allowing the salt to instead be passed in your urine. It helps to make more urine, to lose salt, and to reduce the amount of excess fluid in the body.
