Isotretinoin (trade names include Accutane, Aknenormin, Amnesteem, Claravis, Curacne, Isotretinoin Mepha, Isotretinoin Ratiopharm, Myorisan, Oratane, Roaccutan, Roaccutane, Sotret, Tretinac, Tufacne) is an anti-acne medication from retinoids (Vitamin A derivatives) for topical and systemic use pharmacological groups. This medicine is used for the treatment of moderate to severe acne, for nearly all types of breakouts, acne present for many years, acne that has not responded completely to antibiotic pills, anti-acne creams, gels and lotions. Isotretinoin is also indicated to prevent certain skin cancers (such as squamous-cell carcinoma), neuroblastoma, acute nonlymphocytic leukemia, granuloma annulare, metastatic melanoma, some other cancers, harlequin-type ichthyosis, lamellar ichthyosis, hidradenitis suppurativa, severe rosacea, xeroderma pigmentosum, keratoses, pityriasis rubra pilaris, genital warts, recalcitrant condylomata acuminata of the cervix, fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva. It works by reducing skin oil production, changing the characteristics of the skin oil, and preventing abnormal hardening of the skin.
