  • Disulfiram (trade names include Antabuse, Antabus, Antaethyl, Anticol, Antietanol, Esperal, Etabus, Etiltox, Sarcoton, Tetradin, Teturam) is an alcohol-abuse deterrent medication from drugs used in alcohol dependence pharmacological group. This medicine is used for the treatment of alcoholism, chronic alcoholism, alcohol use disorder. It helps patients with alcohol abuse problems not to drink alcohol. Disulfiram is in research studies for the therapy of HIV, COVID-19, liver metastasis, metastatic melanoma, glioblastoma, non-small cell lung cancer, prostate cancer, parasitic infections such as amebiasis, diarrhea, liver abscess caused by Entamoeba histolytica and other deadly parasites. Antabuse works by interfering with the way the body metabolises alcohol (when taken with alcohol, this medication produces unpleasant effects).
