This medicine is used for the treatment and prevention of chest pain (angina pectoris) due to coronary heart disease, and other heart disorders; to treat congestive heart failure, esophageal spasms, pulmonary hypertension (high blood pressure). It works by relaxing and dilating the blood vessels, increasing the blood and oxygen supply to your heart, and reducing the blood pressure.
    Topical forms of isosorbide dinitrate such as cream or ointment are indicated as a muscle relaxant and vasoprotective drug for the therapy of hemorrhoids, anal fissures, wounds and ulcers.
