This medication is used to treat supraventricular tachycardia, arrhythmia, a rhythm disturbance of the heart, chest pain caused by angina pectoris, high blood pressure (hypertension), cerebral vasospasm, idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis, nocturnal leg cramps, plantar fibromatosis, bipolar disorder, for migraine headache and cluster headache prevention, in cell biology, in veterinary medicine. It is also prescibed for controlling heart rate response to other rhythm disturbances, specifically atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter. It works by slowing the electrical conduction in the heart, slowing heart rate, and/or normalizing heart rhythm. This relaxes your blood vessels, which can reduce the amount of work the heart has to do.
