Losartan (trade names include Cozaar, Cosart, Kenzar, Lorzaar, Mylan-Losartan, Losaprex, Losartan Sandoz, Losartan Teva, Ocsaar, Rasoltan) is a medication for cardiovascular system from angiotensin II antagonists pharmacological group. This medicine is used for treating hypertension (high blood pressure) alone or with other antihypertensive drugs. It works by relaxing blood vessels. This helps to lower blood pressure. Losartan is also indicated to treat heart failure, left ventricular enlargement, alport syndrome, proteinuria; to lower the chance of stroke in patients with high blood pressure and a heart problems; to slow the worsening of diabetic kidney disease (diabetic nephropathy) in patients with type 2 diabetes who have or had high blood pressure.
