This medicines in tablets and dose 0.75 mg per pill (Plan B) is used as an emergency contraception. It can prevent pregnancy up to 72 hours after unprotected sex or contraceptive failure. Plan B One-Step and Morning After Pill contain a high dose of levonorgestrel (1.5 mg) and also can be indicated as a backup method to birth control if, for example: your regular birth control failed (your partner's condom broke or slipped); you made a mistake with your regular method (you forgot to take your birth control pills); you didn't use any birth control method. Levonorgestrel in low doses oral tablets (Microlut 0.03 mg) and in intrauterine systems (Mirena implants) is indicated for systemic oral and intrauterine contraception for up to 5 years, and for the treatment of heavy menstrual bleeding in women. It works by preventing ovulation, disrupts fertilization, and inhibiting implantation.
