Pramipexole (trade names include Mirapex, Biopsol, Glepark, Intaxel, Mirapex-ER, Mirapexin, Pexola, Pexopram, Pramipex, Pramirol, Prexol, Sifrol) is an antiparkinson drug from dopamine agonists pharmacological group. This medication is indicated for the therapy of Parkinson's disease, restless legs syndrome (RLS). It is also off-label used to treat depression, rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder, periodic limb movement disorder, tardive dyskinesia. Pramipexole is in research studies for the treatment of cerebral ischemia-related reperfusion injury (in combination with levodopa), traumatic brain injury, fibromyalgia, bipolar disorder, clinical depression, essential tremor, primary orthostatic tremor (shaky leg syndrome), sexual dysfunction, persistent genital arousal disorder.
Low levels of dopamine in human brain are associated with Parkinson's disease. This medicne works as dopamine-receptors agonist, and has the same effects as natural dopamine.
