Norethisterone, also known as Norethindrone (trade names include Aygestin, Norlutate, Utovlan, Conludag, Cycloreg, Jolivette, Micronor, Micronovum, Norcolut, Noriday, Nor-QD, Ortho Micronor, Prevent-N, Primolut N, Sunolut, Sysron-N, Primolut-Nor, Regestrone, Noristerat, Norethisteron) is a female hormone from progestogens and estren derivatives pharmacological groups. This medication is indicated for menopausal hormone therapy, for the treatment of premenstrual syndrome (painful periods, irregular periods), menopausal syndrome, endometriosis, uterine bleeding caused by abnormal hormone levels, secondary amenorrhea, as birth control pills for hormonal contraception. As an oral contraceptive, norethisterone/norethindrone is available as either a single agent or in combination with an estrogen. Norethisterone Enanthate is also used as an injectable hormonal contraceptive.
