Buspirone (trade names include BuSpar, Ansial, Anxiron, Bespar, Busp, Buspin, Buspiron Actavis, Buspirone Mylan, Spitomin) is an anti-anxiety anxiolytic and psycholeptic medication from azaspirodecanedione derivatives pharmacological group. This medicine is used for the treatment of anxiety disorders, generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), clinical depression, panic disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), Huntington's disease, mild to moderate cerebellar ataxia, borderline personality disorder, benzodiazepine withdrawal, barbiturate withdrawal, alcohol withdrawal, delirium tremens, bruxism on SSRI/SNRI-induced jaw clenching, hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) in women, SSRI induced sexual dysfunction, the short-term relief of symptoms of anxiety with or without accompanying depression, in research studies to treat depression and behavioral problems following brain damage, and for the therapy of some other nervous and anxiety disorders. Buspirone has no withdrawal symptoms and reactions, like other anti-anxiety and antidepressant medications, such as benzodiazepines or barbiturates. It works as a serotonin 5-HT1A receptor partial agonist.
