  • Valsartan (trade names include Diovan, Avasart, Valsartan Teva, Nortivan, Valsartan Actavis, Provas, Valsartan Cinfa Laboratorios, Sarteg, Valsartan Ratiopharm, Tareg, Valsartan Mylan, Valpression, Valsartan Stada, Valtensin, Valsartan Sandoz, Valzaar) is a medication for cardiovascular system from Angiotensin II antagonists pharmacological group. This medicine is used to treat high blood pressure (HBP, hypertension) in adults and children, heart failure in adults, diabetic kidney disease. It is also prescribed for patients with post-myocardial infarction who have had a heart attack to improve the chance of living longer after a heart attack or myocardial infarction in adults. Valsartan works by blocking a chemical called angiotensin II, which causes blood vessels to narrow, restricting blood flow. Diovan also relaxes and widens blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more easily, reducing high blood pressure and stress on a heart.
